A larger-format scanning bed (A3 size) allows you to scan various materials with
templates easily. Moreover, the ScanMaker 9800XL utilize a TMA design (option) that
allows the scanner to accommodate different-sized film, including 35mm (filmstrips
and slides), 6x9 cm and 4¡¨x5¡¨.

The ScanMaker 9800XL has a 21,360-element CCD with resolution that reaches up to
1,600 pixels per inch. With the built-in 48-bit ADC (Analog to Digital Converter), the
ScanMaker 9800XL can convert originals to digital data with high fidelity format. It is
capable of delivering full 48-bit depth color for richer and smoother tonal values, and
an optical range of 3.7 Dmax allows users to capture details in highlight and shadow
areas, as well as accurately represent gradation and natural color from originals
without sacrificing details of the image.
Triple interface ¡V USB, FireWire & SCSI II
Microtek has implemented a triple interface on the ScanMaker 9800XL to provide
customers with more flexibility. For professional users, the FireWire interface can
transfer data at blazing speeds at 48 bits and at 1600-dpi settings. In less than 6
minutes, a 1600-dpi A3 color scan can be completed. Moreover, with its "plug-n-play"
and "live insertions and removals" feature, the ScanMaker 9800XL is easier than ever
to operate.
Aside from having a FireWire interface, this large-format scanner is equipped with an
industry-standard USB connection for additional versatility, as well as a SCSI interface
for users with older equipment.

Multiple Sampling Technology
Random noise is a prime agent in affecting the quality of scanned images. To reduce
random noise, Microtek's Multiple Sampling Technique in the ScanMaker 9800XL
optimizes image data while reducing data variation. With Multiple Sampling, each
scanned line is sampled multiple times (frequency determined by the user in 2, 4, or 8
options), and an average is obtained to distill top-quality data. This technique
effectively minimizes signal fluctuation and artifacts, resulting in purer image output to
greatly enhance the optical density range.

ScanWizard Pro with Built-in Kodak Color Management System
Included in every ScanMaker 9800XL package are Microtek's ScanWizard Pro™ 6.1x
scanning software and the Microtek Scanner ICC Profiler software.
Microtek¡¦s ScanWizard Pro provides a complete scanning solution for novice and
expert alike. ScanWizard Pro features a full palette of high-level color reproduction
tools, on-screen proofing, easy-to-use color correction with auto level, and numerous
preset options for the less experienced user, as well as quantitative feedback in a
variety of device-independent (LCH) or device-dependent color space (RGB, CMYK). Full
color management support for ICC profiled devices ensures compatibility with third-
party color output systems.
ScanWizard Pro allows anyone on the production team to create customized batch
context files and scan directly to CMYK, LAB, RGB or indexed color. It features a full
dynamic range control, batch scanning and multiple-channel curve control. Specific
areas in overviews or prescans can be isolated and tagged with instant read-outs of
RGB or CMYK color values for more precise mapping to originals. Also included is
Kodak Digital Science color management software with a number of ICC profiles for
calibrating to specific displays, output devices and working color spaces.
Network Scanning Support (for Windows)
ScanWizard Pro 6.1x also implements a network scanning feature (Windows only)
that allows a scanner to be shared among clients and servers on a network. This
valuable utility provides added value for the scanner and forms part of the complete
total scanning solution offered by the ScanMaker 9800XL.
Adobe Photoshop Elements and ABBYY FineReader included
The ScanMaker 9800XL comes with Adobe® Photoshop® Elements and ABBYY
FineReader. Adobe® Photoshop® Elements offers unique features designed
specifically for amateur photographers, hobbyists, and business users who want an
easy-to-use, yet powerful digital imaging solution. State-of-the-art image-editing tools
allow you to explore your creativity while mastering the elements of digital imaging.
Flexible image-capture options let you work with photos taken with digital or
traditional cameras, and versatile delivery features enable you to prepare images for
print, e-mail, or posting on the Web. For OCR text scanning, ABBYY FineReader lets
users convert image data into editable text easily and efficiently.
